Episode 60 – Warriors Of Virtue

1997’s Warriors Of Virtue, directed by Ronny Yu and written by Michael Vickerman & Hugh Kelly, is totally not ripping off Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers or Captain Planet & The Planeteers. Matt and Drew have embarrassing levels of fun…with Buffalo Man!

Made as an obvious “homage” to other popular franchises of the time, Warriors Of Virtue starred Mario Yedida as Ryan Jeffers; Angus MacFadyen as Komodo; Marley Shelton as Elysia; and a brief appearance by Ricky D’Shon Collins as Chucky.

The physical performances of the Rooz were handled by several martial artists and stunt performers, including among their number, Doug Jones.

Despite it’s disappointing box office return ($6 million on a $35 million budget), Warriors Of Virtue still somehow earned a direct-to-DVD sequel in 2002, Warriors Of Virtue: The Return To Tao.
