Episode 63 – Reisen Til Julestjernen

Merry Christmas! 1976’s Reisen Til Julestjernen, directed by Ola Slolum and written by Slolum and Aksel Helgeland, is the progenitor of 2012’s Journey To The Christmas Star. For Christmas this year, Matt and Drew go full Norway, without the benefit of English dubbing or subtitles! This episode also contains a reading of that perennial Yuletide favorite, How The Lich Killed Christmas!

Reisen Til Julestjernen is the film which last year’s Reel Fantasy Christmas Countdown entry, Journey To The Christmas Star, was a remake of.  It stars Peer Gynt Prize recipient Hanne Krogh as Sonja; Knut Risan as The King; Alf Nordvang as The Count; and Julian Strøm as Father Christmas.

The film, made on a budget of 3 million kroner, premiered in Norway, where five-year-old Princess Martha Louise was the guest of honor. It remains beloved in its home country and is still played on television every Christmas Eve.
