Episode 67 – Tale Of Tales

2015’s Tale Of Tales, directed by Matteo Garrone and written by Garrone, Edoardo Albinati, Ugo Chiti, and Massimo Gaudioso, is a dark, thematically heavy film with a very distinct fairy tale skew. Matt, Drew, and Amanda break with tradition by having mostly good things to say about it!

So, here’s the thing. Usually, Matt researches every film before we watch it, so we generally know more or less what we’re talking about as far as the behind-the-scenes stuff goes. This time, Matt, for whatever reason, completely forgot to do any research…so a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff we make assumptions about in this episode are completely wrong!

Tales Of Tales is based on stories from the Pentamerone, a 17th century collection of Italian fairy tales collected by Giambattista Basile.  One of several things that we knew nothing about while discussing the film. It stars Salma Hayek as the Queen of Longtrellis; John C. Reilly as the King of Longtrellis;  and Toby Jones as the King of Highhills.

Despite our blatant and flagrant ignorance of so many things here, we all still quite enjoyed the film! That is all.
